Cross Country Teams Turn In Solid Efforts At Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championships
Oct. 28, 2000 GREEN BAY, WI - UIC cross country coach Jim Knoedel was a bag of mixed emotions following Saturday's Midwestern Collegiate Conference championships at the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay. Freshman Jenni Goebel placed fifth overall in the women's division with a time of 18:24. That performance earned Goebel a spot on the all-conference team and MCC newcomer of the year honors. "I was excited to see Jenni in the top five," Knoedel said. "I knew that she would be up there." Knoedel was then disappointed as the Men's team was edged out of third place by six points. "I'm frustrated that we didn't get second place but I'm proud of what we did," Knoedel said. "They ran a good race." Brian Brady led the way for the Flames with a 16th place finish of 26:33. Brady was followed by Danny Smith (18th, 26:40), Joe Marren (20th, 26:49), Russ Riberto (22nd, 26:57), John Simon (27th, 27:07), Rich Daubert (32nd, 27:18), Shawn Sullivan (33rd, 27:21), Don Taylor (44th, 28:18), Chris Stanley (54th, 28:39), Tristan Roche (57th, 28:43) and Lee Foss (59th, 28:57). Goebel was followed by Monieka Thompson (30th, 19:57), Sarah Teren (45th, 20:48), Jessica Streit (55th, 21:15) and Jill Marquette (57th, 21:26). Danny Smith lauded the efforts of Knoedel following the meet. "We've had a lot of downs during the season, but Coach never quit on us," Smith said.
