Valparaiso, Ind.- The UIC Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed at the 2007 Horizon League Championships at Sunset Hills Farm on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Olivia Myers led the women's side for the fourth time this season. She finished in 14th out of 93 runners, earning All-Horizon League Second Team honors. She completed the women's 5,000-meter course with a team-best time of 19:22.

Sophomore Mary Brennan finished behind Myers, crossing the finish line at the 19:43 mark, placing 18th.

Danyelle Somerfield (20:25/32nd) and Rosemary Gillam (20:42/36th) also recorded top finishes for the Flames.

On the men's side, Alex Sutphen (27:10), Jorge Flores (27:12), and Roger Pinon (27:15) stayed together to place 20th through 22nd place out of 86 runners to lead the Flames in the men's 8,000-meter run.

Other top performers for the men included Nic Aubert (27:26/29th), Dan Cline (27:39/35th), and Josh Bland (27:47/39th).

In the team standings, UIC women's cross country team scored 135 points, placing 5th behind Detroit, Youngstown State, Loyola, and Butler. The men finished with 127 points, placing 7th behind Wright State, Valparaiso, Detroit, Youngstown State, Loyola, and Butler.

Butler's men won the Horizon League championship for the tenth consecutive year and Butler's women won their sixth-straight title.

UIC will return to competition on Nov. 10th at the NCAA Regional Championships in Peoria, Ill.
