Sept. 16, 2000

KENOSHA, WI. - UIC cross country coach Jim Knoedel decided to rest some runners this past weekend in preparation for the highly prestigious Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota next weekend.

That provided an opportunity for some Flames' cross country runners to shine at the Midwest Collegiate Cross Country Championships at the University of Wisconsin at Parkside on Saturday.

The men's team finished 21st overall in the 34 team tournament with a score of 668 while the women's team did not field a full team.

Sophomore Jessica Streit was the lone runner for the Flames. Streit finished 84th overall with a time of 20:23 at the 3.1 mile national course.

"Jessica ran very well today," UIC assistant coach Jim Kupres said. "She cut off a minute from her time here last year."

Leading the way for the men was freshman Tristan Roche. Roche finished 140th overall on the 5.0 mile course with a time of 27:52.

Kupres was proud of the team's efforts.

"This was a quality meet," Kupres said. "These guys made the most of the opportunity that was given to them."
