Peoria, Ill. - The UIC men's cross country team posted a successful fifth-place finish while Jenni Goebel paced a short-handed women's squad by placing fifth at the Bradley open on Friday night at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Ill.

The Flames men finished with a team score of 162 on the 8-kilometer course, placing them ahead of Western Illinois (175), host Bradley (194) and Saint Louis (207). Marquette and Eastern Illinois each tallied a score of 39 to tie for the top spot while Indiana (65) came in third followed by Illinois State (93).

Rich Daubert paved the way for UIC, crossing in 26:45.46 for 19th place in the 121-man race. Joe Marren was the next Flame to come in finishing 32nd in 27:21.88. Mikhail Davidyan (28:09.13/40th), Whitney Burns (28:52.68/57th) and Tristan Roche (29:21.55/68th) also came in strong for UIC.

On the women's side, Goebel, who was just one of four UIC runners competing, made her presence felt, finishing fifth with a time of 18:07 in the 5K race. Lizet Diaz was the next Flame to finish, placing 51st in 20:00. Jessica Streit (20:47/78th) and Jill Marquette (23:10/134th) also ran for UIC, who didn't qualify for a team score.

Both squads will be back in action on Sept. 22, as they compete in the Illini Open.
