Palos Heights, Ill.- The UIC men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2007 campaign on Saturday with the 11th Annual UIC Home Opener at Horsetail Lake.

Alex Sutphen paced the UIC effort on the men's side with a sixth-place standing in the 4.1-mile event, crossing the finish line in 21:37.

Nic Aubert (10th/21:44), Mark Riggs (13th/21:53) and Josh Bland (15th/21:55) also turned in Top 15 finishes.

Newcomer Olivia Myers ran the women's two-mile course in 11:39 to place a UIC-best eighth place.

Sophomore Mary Brennan also had a nice showing, running a 12:15 to place 19th overall.

In the team standings the UIC men's cross country team placed second out of seven teams, defeating four teams and tying another in head-to-head competition. The UIC women's squad finished seventh out of eight.

UIC will return to competition on Sept. 14th at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational in Normal, Ill.
