Chicago, Ill. - For the first time since the 2006 season, Idara Essien broke her previous school record in the triple jump at the DePaul Relays on Wednesday afternoon.

Essien turned in a leap of 12.06 meters, surpassing her previous school record of 12.05 meters set two seasons ago.

Essien needs 12.32 meters to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships. She will get one last attempt this weekend at the Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Ill.
