Youngstown, Ohio - The UIC women's track and field team began the first day of the 2008 Horizon League Championships with career-best marks in the throwing events.

Monique Bostert placed eighth in the discus with a career-best toss of 38.47 meters. Jennifer Savickas (37.39m) and Erin Clark (35.60m) also posted personal records in the event.

Kristen McMurray finished ninth in the hammer throw with a heave of 44.05 meters.

In the running events, Danyelle Somerfield turned in an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:55.67) and Olivia Myers finished ninth in the 10,000-meter run (39:25.36)

The Flames will conclude the final day of competition today (May 9) beginning at 8 a.m. CST in Youngstown, Ohio.
