LISLE, Ill. - The UIC women's track and field team is in third place entering the final day of competition at the 2009 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Benedictine University.

The Flames currently sit in third place with 34 points, behind leaders Youngstown State (94) and Milwaukee (63). Detroit (24), Wright State (12), Loyola (12), Butler (10) and Valparaiso (1) round out the eight-team field.

Freshman Aimee Schuh came up just short of winning the heptathlon title, placing second with 4,427 points to winner Yandeh Joh of Youngstown State's 4,467 point performance.

Mary Brennan placed fourth in the 3k steeplechase final in 11:59.27, while Danyelle Somerfield placed ninth in 12:44.53.

In Saturday's field event finals, Lauren Fogarty won the long jump (5.77m), while Constance Sciacero and Laurel Heath went fifth and sixth each with a 1.59m performance.

There were little surprises in terms of athletes competing in the preliminaries in the track events, as the majority of Flames advanced to tomorrow's finals.

The final day of competition gets underway at 11 a.m. with the men's shot put final, with the first track event, the 4x100 relay kicking off at noon.
