Women's Track and Field Sweeps UIC Invitational

Chicago, Ill. - Mother nature was not going to get in the way of the 2nd Annual UIC Track and Field Invitational held at St. Ignatius High School on Saturday afternoon. Despite a steady rain and cold and windy conditions, the University of Illinois at Chicago women's track and field team swept the competition with victories over St. Francis (75-54) and Horizon League rivals UW-Milwaukee (80-25) and Loyola (73-63). In other dual team action, Loyola defeated UW-Milwaukee (74-31) and St. Francis (75-58). St. Francis bounced back and upended UW-Milwaukee (69-36). The women's team received victories from freshman Lindsey Schwerman (long jump, 16'2 ¼"; triple jump, 34'9 ½"), junior Amy Fehrman (high jump, 5'2"), junior Jessica Pancoska (1,500-meter run, 4:55), senior Monieka Thompson (800-meter run, 2:16.4), freshman Kesha Billups (400-meter hurdles, 1:11), sophomore Jenni Goebel (3,000-meter run, 10:41.4) and the 4x400 relay team (4:13).
The men enjoyed a successful afternoon as they rolled over Loyola, 70-41, despite dropping meets to UW-Milwaukee (63-62) and Chicago State (80-55).
The winners on the men's side include freshman Nick Gazis (discus, 132'3"), Joe Marren (1,500-meter run, 4:00.8) and Rich Daubert (3,000-meter run, 8:54.3). UIC will be back in action on Friday as they will travel to Wisconsin to participate in the Marquette Quadrangular, beginning at 4:00 PM.
