Elmhurst, Ill. - Junior Teaha Shepperd did not waste any time.

In her first career collegiate track and field meet, Shepperd earned a first-place finish and obliterated the school-record with a throw of 126' 5 ¾" in the javelin at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Debbie Calamus set the previous record of 108'0" in 1979.

Sophomore Sara O'Mara also broke her own school record in the discus with a fourth-place mark of 123'0". O'Mara previously set the mark of 120' 1 3/4" just two weeks ago.

The Flames received fourth-place finishes from sophomore Lizet Diaz (5,000-meter run, 19:04.5) and freshman Lauren Quinn (pole vault, 8'3 ½").

UIC will be back in action this weekend, as they will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to participate in the Boilermaker Invitational, hosted by Purdue. Action will begin on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., and will conclude on Saturday at noon.
