Rebecca Zaiter Steals Show on First Day of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - In a field that featured competitors from the SEC, ACC, Big East, PAC-12 and others, UIC sophomore middle distance specialist Rebecca Zaiter stole the show in Friday's first day of events at the Raleigh Relays, out-pacing 129 other runners en route to a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run.

Zaiter crossed the finishing line in a school record 4:33.23, claiming medalist honors in her section of the race. Among the other standout performances on the first day of competition included a time of 57.32 seconds by senior Ariel Butzine in the 400-meter (40th of 140), and senior Aimee Schuh, who finished 36th in a field of 63 competitors in the long jump (4.92 meters).

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Tess Ehrhardt took 13th with a time of 11:13.60, while senior Jaime Johnson crossed the finishing line in 11:16.06, good for sixth place in her section of the event.

Competition for the final day of the Raleigh Relays will begin at 9:30 a.m., local time on Saturday at the Paul H. Derr Track.
