Indoor Track And Field Season Comes To An End
March 4, 2002
South Bend, Ind. - Few could blame University of Illinois at Chicago track and field coach Jim Knoedel if he was spoiled by his team during the indoor season. After all, at least one school record had been broken in each of the meets prior to the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame over the weekend. The Invitational would mark the end of the indoor season for UIC. That streak came to an end as Monieka Thompson, Jenni Goebel, Rich Daubert and Joe Marren narrowly missed school marks in their respective events. Thompson, who holds the school record in the 800-meter indoor run with a time of 2:11.94, placed 12th overall with a season-best mark of 2:13.29. Goebel, who owns the indoor school-record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:51.62, placed 17th overall with a mark of 17:55.89. Daubert, missed the school-record in the 3,000-meter run by 2.5 seconds as he finished 17th overall with a mark of 8:31.3. Marren finished right behind Daubert with a mark of 8:34.5. Dave Schroeder set the school mark of 8:28.8 in 1978.
The outdoor season will begin for the Flames on March 30th, as they will participate in the Purdue Invitational at 11:00 AM.
