Ann Arbor, Mich. - Monieka Thompson's title in the 800-meter event highlighted UIC's first year of official competition at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Thompson set a new MCC championship record with her time of 2:12.83.

That win helped propel the women's team to a fifth place finish at the championships with 24 total points. UW-Milwaukee won the event with a score of 119, followed by Detroit (111), Loyola (59), Butler (44), UIC and Wright State (12).

Thompson's effort wasn't the only noteworthy performance for the Flames as Jenni Goebel took fourth in the 5000-meter run in a time of 18:13.80 while Danielle Simpson placed fifth in the weight throw (11.44 m) and sixth in shot put (10.55 m) for UIC.
