Women's Track & Field Takes Second At Chicagoland Championships
Feb. 14, 2009 Romeoville, Ill. - Freshman Aimee Schuh won the 55-meter hurdles and junior Monique Bostert took first in the weight throw to lead the UIC women's track and field team to a second place finish at the 2009 Chicagoland Championships hosted by Lewis University on Friday. The Flames took runner-up honors in the 19-team field with 84 points on the evening, coming in behind the host Flyers who totaled 107 points. The field events were, once again, an area of strength for UIC. After Aimee Schuh gave UIC its lone event title on the track with a personal best time of 8.45 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, she also scored points with her seventh place finish in the long jump. Lauren Fogarty posted the Flames top finish in the long jump, placing third with a leap of 5.32m. Kellie Schuh, the twin sister of Aimee, had another strong night for UIC, taking second in the pole vault (3.45m) and fourth in the triple jump (10.94m). Andrea Crump bested Schuh's leap in the triple jump to give the Flames a second place finish in the event at 11.05m. The weight throw was dominated by UIC as Kristen McMurray gave the Flames a one-two finish in the event with her heave of 16.02m marking just behind the winning toss of 16.70m from Bostert. UIC's performance on the track was not without its highlights. Kristen Heckert finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 18:11.80. Mary Brennan (2:26.57) and Kelsey Mueller (2:26.76) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800-meter run.
The UIC women's track and field team will now take the week off before returning to the track next Friday, Feb. 20, for the final tune-up prior to the Horizon League Championships as they compete at Milwaukee. |
