    CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in split-squad action Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, along with the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Between the two events, UIC took home 16 top-20 finishes, including two individual titles.

    On Friday at the ISU Classic, Matt Zaluckyj finished third in the 800-meter run, crossing the finishing line in a school-record 1:52.49. Additionally, Sam Kehoe recorded a sixth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, turning in a time of 14:43.69.

    "Matt broke the school record in the 800-meter - he's going to break 1:50 before the indoor season is over," said head coach Jim Knoedel.

    On the women's side, freshman Ariel Kirby narrowly missed the school record in Friday's 800-meter, finishing with a time of 2:12.38.

    At Friday's Chicagoland Championships, UIC posted 11 top-20 tallies, including two individual titles. Freshman Tess Ehrhardt took home medalist honors in the 1-Mile Run (5:07.11), while senior Alexandria Warner finished first in the weight throw, tallying a toss of 18.00 meters. Senior Constance Sciacero also finished second in the high jump, leaping 1.62 meters.

    "Alex Warner had an incredible throw in the weight throw, far surpassing her Horizon League rivals and putting her in elite company," Knoedel said.

    At Saturday's Chicagoland Championships, Justen Garth took second in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 6.97 seconds - he also recorded a fifth-place tally in the 200-meter (23.00 seconds). Meanwhile, Justin Higginbotham claimed top honors in the triple jump, recording a mark of 14.85 meters.

    "Justin Higginbotham did a great job in the triple jump, and demonstrated his training is paying off with big dividends," said Knoedel. "Justen Garth made the jump into the sub-7.0 group with his personal record in the 60-meter."

    Both teams will compete in the UWM Quad in Milwaukee next Friday (Feb. 17). The indoor Horizon League Championships are set for Feb. 25-26.
