Newcomer Crystal Sanders Picks Up A Pair Of School Records In Her Debut At Badger Track Classic

Chicago, Ill. - Sophomore transfer Crystal Sanders set a pair of school records in her first ever meet as a member of the University of Illinois at Chicago women's track and field team at the Badger Track Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Sanders set a school-record in the 60-meter hurdles with a second-place finish of 9.31 as well as a third-place record in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 3 ˝ inches.
"I'm very excited about her performance," UIC head coach Jim Knoedel said. "This is a performance that she can build on for better things down the road.
"It was the best start she could possibly have."
Newcomer Korinne Krych was equally as impressive as the Plainfield, Ill., captured the victory in her heat in the 400-meter heat with a mark of 62.85.
Senior sprinter Monieka Thompson took third in her heat of the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line at 59.65.
Junior Danielle Simpson picked up a runner-up performance in the weight throw with a heave of 42-feet, 11-inches.
Senior distance runner Jessica Streit was third in her heat of the 1-mile run with a time of 5:41.53.
UIC will be back in action on Saturday, January 18th, as the Flames will travel to Charleston, Ill., to participate in the Eastern Illinois Open at 9:00 a.m.
