ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's track & field teams got their indoor seasons underway Friday, collecting a combined 13 first-place finishes at the Lewis Open in Romeoville.

Andrea Crump and Aimee Schuh stole the show on the women's side, with each winning a pair of events. Crump took home medalist honors in both the 55-meter dash (7.15 seconds) and the triple jump (12.06 meters), while Schuh captured the individual title in both the 55-meter hurdles (8.62 seconds) and long jump (5.20 meters). Crump's performance in the 55-meter marked an indoor school record at UIC.

Other first-place finishes on the women's side included Mary Daly in the 400-meter dash (1:02.02) and Tess Ehrhardt in the 3,000-meter run (10:35.00).

"We had a great start to the season with 13 wins, highlighted by Andrea Crump's school record in the 55-meters," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "She broke the 2004 record by an astounding .11 seconds. We recruited her out of high school for the triple jump so it's amazing to see her do so well outside of that event.

"We also had two big wins from Aimee Schuh in the long jump and 55-meter hurdles. This meet set the stage for what should be an exciting season."

On the men's side, UIC captured seven first-place finishes, including in a pair of relays. Justen Garth won the 55-meter dash (6.44 seconds) race; Angelos Karkalis took home first-place honors in the 800-meter run (1:58.18); freshman Marcus Garcia won the 3,000-meter run (9:19.26); Matt Marzahl took home the high jump title (1.93 meters) and Justin Higginbotham claimed the top spot in the triple jump (14.60 meters).

UIC also took home relay titles in both the 4x400 and the Distance Medley. Freshman Obinna Onyeaghala was a member of both relay teams.

The Flames will head to the Cardinal Invitational in Naperville, Ill., next Friday (Jan. 18).
