    Track & Field Wraps up Competition at Saturday's Huskie Open

    Men's team cruises to eight first-place finishes

    Gabe Rivera enters his second season as an assistant coach for the UIC track and field program. Rivera works primarily as the Flames' sprint, hurdle, and horizontal jump coach.


    Prior to joining the Flames, Rivera helped expand Eastern New Mexico University's track and field program. He worked with athletes who qualified for the NCAA Division II championships in men's triple jump, men's and women's javelin and men's 4x100-meter relay.


    Rivera served as an assistant coach at College of DuPage (Illinois) from 2005-06, where he was the sprint and jump coach.


    In 2006, Rivera helped guide the College of DuPage to an NJCAA III national title.


    Rivera was a member of the College of DuPage Track and Field squad from 2000-2001 where he competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter races, as well as the long jump. From 2002-2004, he was a member of the UIC track and field program.

    Rivera earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from UIC in 2004. He finished work on his Master's in Physical Education with a
    focus on Exercise Science this year.
