The UIC men's and women's cross country teams opened up the 2014 season Saturday hosting the UIC Home Opener at Lewis University in Romeoville. The women's squad earned first place in the 4K race, while the men finished second in the 6K event.
The UIC men's and women's cross country programs will kick off the 2014 season by hosting the UIC Home Opener on Saturday at Lewis University Cross Country Course in Romeoville, Ill. Competition begins at 10 a.m. CT with the women's 4k race, followed by the men's 6k race, which is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
The UIC men's and women's track & field team will host open tryouts at the Physical Education Building on Thursday, September 4th. The tryouts will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. CT. The Physical Education Building is located at 901 West Roosevelt Road and registration will take place in Room 131.
Junior Tess Ehrhardt took home top honors in the 3,000-meter run at the Horizon League Championships, crossing the finish line in 10:03.97. Junior Rebecca Zaiter also had a strong performance in the 800-meter run crossing the finish line in 2:12.31 and setting a WATTS Center record.
Sharon Mwale took home top honors at the Horizon League Championships in the high jump, recording a personal-record mark of 1.66 meters. The men's squad finished fourth overall with a total of 76 points, and the women's team collected 61 points for a fifth-place finish.
Junior Tess Ehrhardt capped off an impressive cross country season with a 24th-place finish team at the 2013 NCAA Midwest Regional and garnered a spot on the All-Region. As a team, the Flames placed 25th among 30 squads as the meet was hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
