Oct. 25, 2001

Chicago, Ill. - UIC junior Nicole Derouin was honored as the Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week it was announced earlier this morning.

Derouin's play highlighted the weekend for the Flames as she made a statement to her regional opponents, posting a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 1 singles spot.

Left out of the main draw at this week's ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Madison, Wis., Derouin posted two wins over competitors who had qualified for the main draw while running her current singles winning streak to four.

Her win versus Missouri on Friday was the Flames only tally in the match and her come-from-behind three-set triumph versus Iowa State on Saturday proved to be the difference in UIC's 4-3 victory.

Derouin will compete in the qualifying draw of the 2001 ITA Regional Championships on Thursday afternoon, taking on Amalia Lincaru of Eastern Michigan in the opening round.
