CHICAGO – After an undefeated performance at the ITA Second Chance Regional, UIC sophomore Ann-Sophie Hahn has been named the Horizon League women’s tennis Player of the Week for Oct. 7-13, the conference office announced. This marks the first such accolade of Hahn’s career.
The Flames competed at the ITA Second Chance Regional Oct. 11-12 at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill. Alongside seniors Jana Knoppe and Kathryn Sharples and freshman Veronica Lacerda, Hahn captured the first-place title in the doubles B flight and singles C bracket.
In doubles, Hahn combined with Lacerda and the duo took out their opponents from Chicago State, 8-1, in the first round and Milwaukee, 8-4, in the second round, before advancing to the title match where they defeated Marquette's Aleeza Kanner and Laia Hernandez, 8-7.
Hahn owned the C flight after taking all straight-set wins. She first took a 7-5, 6-3 win over Chicago State's Hanna Pangestu and came back to retire Northern Illinois’ Stephanie McDonald, and claimed the championship match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Hernandez.
While competing in two tournaments this fall, Hahn fell in just two matches and concluded competition with a 5-1 doubles record, when alongside seniors Mariana Palacios and Lacerda, and held a 6-1 record in singles.
With the conclusion of the fall season, Hahn and the Flames will return to the courts on Jan. 25, 2014, when they face off against Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis.
