Chicago, Ill. - UIC freshman Ayca Gumuscu was named Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Week it was announced early this afternoon.

Gumuscu made her collegiate singles debut a successful one as claimed the Flight 2 championship at the Bowling Green Invitational with a 6-4, 6-4 win versus Kate Weightman of Xavier. Gumuscu also remained perfect in doubles play (6-0) as she teamed with senior Jacki Farr to roll through the Flight 1 field en route to a doubles title.

The Flames are back in action this afternoon as they begin play at the 2000 Michigan State Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
