2007 NCAA DIVISION I WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
SATURDAY, MAY 12 * 8:00 A.M. CT
Chicago, Ill.- The UIC women's tennis team makes its ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship this Saturday morning as the Flames face seventh-ranked and sixth-seeded Notre Dame in the first round at the Courtney Tennis Center in Notre Dame, Ind. The Flames (14-7) earned their berth by winning the 2007 Horizon League Championship for the conference's automatic bid. UIC has won 11 consecutive league titles and has gone 10 seasons without a loss to a league foe, tallying a perfect 93-0 mark against conference competition. Notre Dame (25-3) finished second in the BIG EAST and will be the highest-seeded foe the Flames have ever faced. The Flames have faced a Top 20 seed in every NCAA Tournament they have competed in. This is the third time the Flames and Fighting Irish have hooked up in the NCAA Tournament. In UIC's first-ever trip to the Big Dance in 1999, the Irish defeated the Flames by a 9-0 score. UIC and Notre Dame also faced off in the postseason the following year, with the Irish earning a 5-0 win. The winner of Saturday's match moves on to face the winner of the Colorado-Michigan first round match this Sunday in South Bend.
