CHICAGO - After playing six home matches on the indoor courts at Match Point Tennis in Griffith, Ind., the UIC women's tennis team (11-4, 3-0 HL) prepares for its first, and last, match of the season at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts Saturday.  While honoring senior Haley Craig, the Flames take on Detroit beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).

UIC is back in action after going 2-1 against Akron, Milwaukee and Green Bay.  The Flames fell to the Zips, 7-0, on March 27 before coming back in a pair of dual matches on March 29 to defeat the Panthers, 6-1, and the Phoenix, 7-0.

While not competing against Akron, junior Mariana Palacios was able to go undefeated against Milwaukee and Green Bay in doubles and singles, earning Horizon League Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.  Palacios improved her season singles record to 11-2 through play at No. 1 (1-0), No. 2 (4-1) and No. 3 (6-1), while going to 7-5 in doubles.

Natalia Kuvakina, Kathryn Sharples, Jana Knoppe and Keti Mebuke all went 2-1 in singles and improved to 3-0 this season against Horizon League opponents.  Kuvakina and Sharples went to three sets in their respective wins against the Panthers, and took straight-set wins against the Phoenix, as Knoppe and Mebuke won both of their matches in straight-set fashion.

Ann-Sophie Hahn and Craig also competed, with Hahn splitting a 1-1 record in singles and Craig going 0-1 in a match at No. 1 against Milwaukee.

In doubles, Palacios and Craig went 2-0 at the No. 1 position against Milwaukee and Green Bay, with Sharples and Knoppe doing the same at No. 2.  Kuvakina split her time with Hahn and Mebuke and collected a win with each partner, while all of the Flames' pairings fell against Akron.

Heading into Saturday's match, UIC has defeated Detroit by 6-1 decisions in the past three regular-season meetings.  The Titans are 6-5 this season, 1-2 against Horizon League opponents, and are coming off of a 6-1 win against Wright State after dropping a pair of matches to Youngstown State and Cleveland State.  The team is scheduled to take on IUPUI Friday afternoon.
