Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago junior women's tennis player Melanie Humphrey (Harpenden Herts, England/Millfield/Washington State) was honored for her impressive weekend by earning Horizon League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Returning from a badly sprained ankle suffered against Barry University on March 12, Humphrey turned in two straight-set singles wins and a doubles victory.

On March 31st against Horizon League rival Detroit, Humphrey defeated Amy Inman 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot. She also teamed with Grace Gill-Morlis to turn in a doubles win to help UIC blank the Titans.

Versus Long Beach State on April 3rd, Humphrey downed Sandra Rocha at the No. 3 slot with a 6-0, 6-4 win.

This marks the fourth time this season that a UIC women's tennis player has earned Athlete of the Week recognition from the Horizon League. Molly Smith won the honor on Feb. 9th, while Iris Jaklin took the award for two consecutive weeks (Feb. 22nd and March 1st).
