CHICAGO – Currently on a six-match win streak, the UIC women’s tennis team (6-1) continues its stint on the road with a 1 p.m. (CT) match Saturday against Northern Illinois at the West Tennis Courts in DeKalb, Ill.

The Flames escaped Illinois State on Saturday, March 2, with a 4-3 win, having dropped doubles before taking four singles matches.

Despite losing the doubles point, Natalia Kuvakina and Ann-Sophie Hahn won their match at No. 3, 8-3, to stay undefeated this season with a 6-0 record.

Jana Knoppe won the first singles match at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1, to improve to 3-2 at the position and Kuvakina brought in the next point with a 6-4, 6-0 win to go to 3-2, as well, at No. 2.

Keti Mebuke and Mariana Palacios tallied the final two for the Flames while advancing their dual season records to 6-1. Mebuke came up with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6, while Palacios stole a three-set 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 3.

While not facing each other during the 2011-12 season, UIC has won its last three meetings with Northern Illinois, with its most recent 7-0 win coming in the 2011 dual season. The last match the Huskies won was during the 2004-05 season, when they defeated the Flames 5-2.

So far this season, Northern Illinois is 12-1 after winning its last nine matches. The Huskies have six shutouts and their last loss came against Southern Illinois on Feb. 3.
