CHICAGO – Coming off of an impressive 4-3 win against Western Michigan, the UIC women’s tennis team (5-1) takes to the courts at Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill., to face off against Illinois State at 1 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.
On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Flames captured a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Western Michigan. After dropping doubles and its first singles match, UIC was able to come away with four straight matches to take the victory.
Natalia Kuvakina and Ann-Sophie Hahn improved to 5-0 in doubles on the season with the Flames lone win at No. 3, 8-1.
Kathryn Sharples (No. 4) and Keti Mebuke (No. 6) brought in the first singles wins for UIC to tie up the score. Haley Craig then notched a straight-set win at No. 1, as Mariana Palacios slid in with the final point at No. 3.
Over their past five meetings, the Flames hold the edge over the Redbirds with a 4-1 record, having taken the last three, including last season’s 6-1 victory.
Illinois State is 5-4 this season, having lost its last two matches to UTEP and Lamar, with its most recent win coming against Creighton on Sunday, Feb. 17.
