CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis team (1-7) welcomes Grand Canyon and Illinois State to Match Point Tennis in Griffith, Ind., this weekend for a pair of non-conference matches. The Flames take on the Antelopes for the first time in program history on Friday at 11 a.m. CT before challenging the Redbirds on Sunday at noon.

UIC is coming off of a pair of tough losses against Michigan State, 5-2, and Western Michigan, 5-2, on Feb. 15 and 16, respectively. Through the two matches, senior Jana Knoppe won both of her singles matches and her doubles match alongside senior Kathryn Sharples against the Spartans, while Sharples also won in singles against Michigan State and junior Keti Mebuke collected a straight-set victory against the Broncos.

Knoppe continues to lead the Flames this season in singles wins with a 7-1 record after capturing her last four matches, as Mebuke follows with a 4-4 mark. Knoppe and Sharples hold three of UIC's four doubles wins, with Mebuke and freshman Veronica Lacerda also picking up a win.

Grand Canyon enters into competition with a 1-2 record after falling to New Mexico, 4-3, and Arizona, 4-0, before collecting its first win against Texas-El Paso, 6-1, on Feb. 8. Friday's match will serve as the first meeting between the Flames and the Antelopes.

Illinois State holds a 5-3 record this season and is coming off a loss to Nebraska, 5-2, on Feb. 16 that ended a five-match win streak. UIC is 6-15 in the all-time series against the Redbirds, with the Flames taking the win last season with a 4-3 defeat on the road.
