    CHICAGO - Women's tennis standout Mariya Kovaleva was named the Horizon League women's tennis athlete of the week for the period ending February 17, the league office announced on Wednesday.

    The Almaty, Kazakhstan native was victorious in both singles and doubles over the weekend against Mid-American opponent Toledo.

    At No. 2 singles, Kovaleva defeated Ashley Frey, 6-1, 6-4, after pairing up with Kristen McPhillips and beating Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis at No. 1 doubles, 8-3.

    The freshman has accrued a 4-1 record in both singles and doubles, playing at the second singles position for all matches this season.

    Kovaleva and the Flames squad head to Western Michigan this weekend, facing the Broncos on Saturday, the 28th at noon.
