CHICAGO – The UIC women’s tennis team (3-1) looks toward its second home match of the season on Saturday at Match Point Tennis Club in Griffith, Ind. The Flames are scheduled to face Toledo at 1 p.m. (CT).
UIC is coming off of a pair of wins against North Dakota and South Dakota in Des Moines, Iowa. The Flames defeated UND, 6-1, and took down USD, 7-0, sweeping doubles in both matches and going 11-of-12 in singles.
The doubles pairings stayed the same throughout the weekend, with Haley Craig combining with Mariana Palacios, Kathryn Sharples teaming with Jana Knoppe and Natalia Kuvakina pairing with Ann-Sophie Hahn, as all sets improved with 2-0 finishes.
In singles, Craig went 1-1 at No. 1, Kuvakina went 1-0 at No. 2 and Palacios went 2-0 at No. 2 and 3. At No. 3 and 4, Sharples garnered a 2-0 record, with Knoppe tallying 2-0 at No. 4 and 5. Keti Mebuke also went 2-0 at No. 5 and 6, as Hahn collected a 1-0 record at No. 6.
When competing against Toledo over the past five seasons, the Flames are undefeated, following last year’s 5-2 victory. The Rockets are 3-4 this season, with their most recent win coming over Cal. (PA), and will take on Milwaukee Friday afternoon, before facing UIC on Saturday.
