CHICAGO – After going 1-1 in its first set of matches this season, the UIC women’s tennis team (1-1) heads to Des Moines, Iowa, for a pair of neutral-site matches against North Dakota on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CT) and South Dakota on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. (CT).

The Flames return to competition after a 6-1 loss to Marquette on Jan. 31 and a 7-0 win against Chicago on Sunday, Feb. 2.  While UIC collected just one win against the Golden Eagles, they blanked the Maroons in singles and doubles.

Junior Natalia Kuvakina had a dominant weekend, as she took the Flames’ lone win against Marquette, captured a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 against Chicago and went 1-1 in doubles.

Against the Maroons, UIC swept all matches in straight sets through singles play and took two in doubles, with one going unfinished.  Mariana Palacios, Kathryn Sharples, Jana Knoppe and Keti Mebuke ended the weekend with 1-1 singles records, as Ann-Sophie Hahn went 1-0 and Haley Craig fell to go 0-1.

Craig combined with Sharples at No. 1 to take the first doubles win of the weekend versus Chicago, with Hahn and Kuvakina partnering for the Flames second win.

Through competition this season, North Dakota is 1-3, with its win coming against Minnesota State-Moorhead.  UND is scheduled to face Milwaukee Friday night, prior to its meet with UIC on Saturday.

South Dakota is 2-0 after defeating Mount Marty and Northwestern (Iowa) in 7-0 finals.  The Coyotes will take on UTEP Saturday afternoon before Sunday’s competition with the Flames.
