INDIANAPOLIS – UIC senior Jana Knoppe has been named the Horizon League women’s tennis Player of the Week for Jan. 27-Feb. 2, as announced by the League office on Tuesday. This is the first such accolade for Knoppe since her freshman season.

The Ihringen, Germany, native picks up the honor after going 4-2 through doubles and singles to lead all Flames with the best record against Akron (L, 4-3), ASA College (W, 5-2) and No. 74 DePaul (L, 7-0) last weekend.

At the No. 2 position in doubles, Knoppe joined with fellow senior Kathryn Sharples to go a perfect 2-0 against the Zips and Avengers, while she dropped her match against the Blue Demons alongside freshman Ann-Sophie Hahn.

In singles, Knoppe continued her undefeated record after taking a 6-4, 6-0 win against Akron’s Karolina Maksimava at No. 5 and a 6-0, 6-2 victory over ASA College’s Danielle Winter at No. 4 to go 3-0 on the season, but fell in her final match of the weekend to DePaul’s Jasmin Kling, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4.

Knoppe and the Flames return to action this weekend when they travel to Ohio to take on Toledo on Saturday at noon CT and Bowling Green on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
