CHICAGO- UIC sophomore Mariya Kovaleva was named Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 18-24, the league office announced late Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Kovaleva recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Wisconsin's Aleksandra Markovic at No. 1 singles on Saturday. Her win at the top of the lineup set the tone for UIC's 4-3 win over the Badgers.

The UIC women's tennis team travels to Rockford to face Northern Illinois on Saturday.
