CHICAGO – The UIC women’s tennis team prepares for its dual season with one last scheduled tournament this weekend.  The Flames head to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete at the Purdue Hidden Dual, running Saturday-Monday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

“We are looking forward to a busy weekend at Purdue,” head coach Shannon Tully said.  “This event will be important for us to see how the line-up shakes out for singles and to see what doubles combinations are most successful.  With several new players starting this spring, we are almost half of a new team, so we have a lot more to work with.  I’m looking forward to the quality competition this weekend.”

The Flames are set to face competitors from No. 65 DePaul and No. 27 Purdue, having faced the two teams on more than one occasion during the fall.  The first day is set for doubles matches between the three schools, followed with a day of singles, and wrapping up on Monday with UIC taking on Purdue in doubles and singles.

At the DePaul Invitational, Michigan State Invitational, Northwestern Invitational and the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional during the fall season, UIC was able to produce a record of 33-26 in singles, while taking eight doubles wins.

Kathryn Sharples came away with the best singles record of 9-3, with Jana Knoppe going 8-4 and Keti Mebuke bringing in a 7-4 record.  Through doubles, Haley Craig and Natalia Kuvakina took five wins of their own.
