CHICAGO – In a preseason head coaches’ poll conducted by the Horizon League, the UIC women’s tennis team has been chosen as the favorite to win its 18th-consecutive conference title, as announced by the League office on Monday. The Flames received six of the nine first-place votes and led the poll with 62 points.

Last season, UIC captured its 17th-straight Horizon League title, 15th-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and second-straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Region top-10 ranking.

Set to open the 2014 season on Jan. 25 in Milwaukee, Wis., against Marquette, the Flames will bring depth and experience as they return six student-athletes, including four seniors, and welcome one newcomer. Head coach Shannon Tully, the reigning Wilson/ITA Midwest Coach of the Year, enters her 13th season at the helm of the program.

The 2014 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Championships will be held in Ann Arbor, Mich., April 25-27. The top six teams on both sides will reach the tournament, with the top two seeds receiving byes into the semifinals.
