    Evanston, Ill. - Illinca Cristescu, Zlatka Petrova, and Mariya Kovaleva represented the UIC women's tennis team at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend to close out the fall season.

    Cristescu and Petrova both competed in the singles qualifying bracket.

    Cristescu lost a hard-fought battle against Miriam Westerink of Eastern Michigan, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, in the second round.

    Petrova lost to Western Michigan's Maggie Remynse in the opening round, 6-3, 6-2.

    The Flames' team of Cristescu and Kovaleva competed in the doubles main draw.

    Cristescu and Kovaleva defeated the team of Xu Chang and Celine Donnet of EMU, 8-3, in the opening round but fell to Michigan's duo of Rika Tatsumo and Whitney Taney in the second round, 8-5.
