Minneapolis, Minn.- The University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis team started to wrap up the fall schedule this weekend with play at the ITA Midwest Regionals at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.

With injuries holding Beatriz Cabrera and Melanie Humphrey out of this weekend's action, Corey Steven stepped up and notched a singles win in the first qualifying round, downing Jennifer Myers of Horizon League rival Cleveland State with a 6-4, 6-0 win on Thursday.

In the next qualifying round, Steven was downed by Tayo Bailey of Butler, 6-3, 6-3.

Steven and teammate Iris Jaklin lost their main draw doubles match, getting tagged with a close 8-6 defeat at the hands of Katie McGaffigan and Lindsay Martin of Wisconsin.

Jaklin faced Indiana's Dora Vastag in the first round of the main draw on Saturday, losing a 6-4, 6-3 contest.

The Flames will return to action for spring dual meet play in January, beginning with Hidden Duals hosted by Northwestern from January 14-16th.
