Lubica Nadasska And Ilinca Cristescu Compete At ITA Midwest Regional Championships
Oct. 22, 2007
Ann Arbor, Mich.- The duo of senior Lubica Nadasska and freshman Ilinca Cristescu traveled to the University of Michigan to take part in the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships, beginning October 18. Both Nadasska and Cristescu won their first two matches in singles, only to fall in the qualifying round for the open singles bracket. Nadasska faced Horizon League rivals in her first two contests, defeating Emily Thayer from Youngstown State (6-2, 6-2) in the opening round. Then, in what head coach Shannon Tully described as "a huge win", Nadasska soundly defeated Butler's Molly Casperson, last season's Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, in a score of 6-2, 6-0. Nadasska fell to Ashley Frey of Toledo 6-4, 6-3 in a hard-fought qualifying match. Freshman Ilinca Cristescu had an outstanding tournament showing as well. After losing the first set against Illinois' Candy Graetz, Cristescu pulled her game together and won the next two, winning the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. In her second round, Cristescu pulled an upset over Alexis Conill, the number three seed from Northwestern (6-4, 7-6 (4) ). After having great success against Big Ten foes, the Mid-American Conference was too much to handle as Cristescu lost to Miami University's Anastasia Dracheva in the qualifying round 6-1, 6-2. The duo finished their regional appearance with a well-fought loss in doubles to Ohio State's Cami Hubbs and Ally Mueller 8-3. The entire women's tennis squad wraps up the fall 2007 schedule in Denton, Texas at the North Texas Invitational November 2-4.
