Chicago, Ill. - At the conclusion of play on day one of the UIC Invitational, the Flames women's tennis team advanced well against some of the areas top competition.

Ilinca Cristescu kicked-off her sophomore campaign without giving up more than two sets in either of her matches in the A singles flight, defeating her Western Illinois opponent 6-1, 6-1 and took the semi-final victory of Umemura of Northern Illinoi 6-1, 6-2.

Mariya Kovaleva made her UIC debut in the A flight as well, defeating Mayasan of Chicago State, before falling to Chicago's Higgins 6-1, 6-2.

Kovaleva and Elana Antakova paired up in the A doubles bracket, defeating the tandem of Vacagusman and Kung from Chicago 8-5. Cristecsu and Jenna Reisch also advanced within the A bracket, defeating Higgins and Krishnan of Chicago 9-7.

Reisch had success in singles as well, advancing to the C finals championship against Vacaguzman of Chicago.

Play will conclude with two rounds of doubles and all singles finals tomorrow afternoon.
