A Perfect 10 For UIC Women's Tennis; Flames NCAA Tournament Bound

Indianapolis, Ind. - The UIC women's tennis team will make its eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance following its unprecedented 10th straight Horizon League Tournament crown which the Flames secured on Sunday morning with a 4-1 victory over Butler in the title match at North Central High School. Senior Molly Smith and sophomore Grace Gill-Morlis each posted two wins versus the Bulldogs to lead the Flames. The tandem combined for an 8-2 triumph in the No. 3 doubles match and then posted identical 6-0, 6-1 triumphs at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. Junior Callan Smith also was victorious on Sunday at No. 2 singles, battling back after dropping the opening set to win, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Women's Championship Match: UIC 4 , BU 1 Singles No. 1 Alaina Griffin (BU) defeated Iris Jaklin (UIC) - 6-2, 6-4 No. 2 Callan Smith (UIC) defeated Tayo Bailey (BU)- 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 No. 3 Corey Steven (UIC) and Michelle Hawes (BU)- Did not finish No. 4 Molly Smith (UIC) defeated Chelsey Casperson (BU)- 6-0, 6-1 No. 5 Grace Gill-Morlis (UIC) defeated A. Harrison (BU)- 6-0, 6-1 No. 6 Christina Oum (UIC) and Chelsey Casperson (BU)- Did not finish Doubles No. 1 C.
