April 13, 2001

Chicago, Ill. - Jacki Farr (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) made `Senior Day' a memorable one on Friday (April 13) as she pushed her way into the UIC record books while pacing the women's tennis team past Detroit, 7-0, at Flames Courts.

With her 8-0 win, teaming with Karen Liwanpo (Ontario, Canada) in the No. 3 doubles match, Farr surpassed former Flame Sara Jackson for the top spot on the career doubles win list with 81 all-time victories.

The senior then capped the day by battling back to take out Titan senior Maria Pandele in the No. 1 singles contest, the most exciting match of the day.

Farr lost the first set 6-7(4), but then rallied to take the second set 6-2 to set up a deciding tiebreaker third set. Even though UIC had long since claimed victory in the match as the Flames swept doubles and the No. 2-6 singles affairs, Farr and Pandele battled back-and-forth through long rallies until Farr finally prevailed 13-11.

"It was great for Jacki to come out and break the record today, on `Senior Day'," remarked UIC head coach Mary Dailey after the match. "The No. 1 singles match was a real mental match and a revenge match for Jacki after she lost to Pandele in the fall at the Bowling Green Invitational. A win in a match like that should give her some real confidence."

With the victory, UIC remains undefeated in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference with a 4-0 record. The Flames are now 11-8 overall this season, surpassing their 10 wins of a year ago.

Dailey's crew is back in action on Saturday, April 21 as they host UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee at Flames Courts for an MCC doubleheader starting at 9:00 a.m.
