Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team was unable to capitalize on a depleted DePaul squad on Wednesday evening as the Blue Demons held off a late Flames' rally for a 5-2 triumph at Flames Courts.

With the loss, UIC's second straight, the Flames are now 8-8 on the season. DePaul, meanwhile, improved to 13-10 on the year with the win.

Doubles woes continued to plague UIC on Wednesday. The Blue Demons, which competed with just five players and defaulted in the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles match, rallied to win both the No. 1 (8-6) and No. 2 (8-4) doubles affairs to take the doubles' point and a 1-0 lead into singles play.

The match was evened 1-1 with the DePaul default in the No. 6 singles contest, but Stephanie Matko's 6-2, 6-1 win over Zvjezdana Malesevic in the No. 4 slot quickly but the Blue Demons back up, 2-1.

DePaul's lead would soon grow to 3-1 as Szilvia Kelemen clipped Nicole Derouin in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match.

Down two points with three matches still in progress, the Flames began to claw back as freshman Ayca Gumuscu, who is now 10-2 since being moved to No. 3 in the lineup, outlasted Kadi Hilpus 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to pull UIC within a point, 3-2.

UIC could not get the final two points it needed to pull out the win, though, as both Jacki Farr (6-1, 1-6, 7-5/No. 1) and Alyson Stalzer (3-6, 6-0, 6-4/No. 5) dropped tight three-set decisions.

Mary Dailey's crew will look to rebound on Saturday morning at Flames Courts as they take their undefeated MCC record into a pair of league contests. The Flames start the day by taking on Cleveland State at 9:00 a.m., before wrapping up the day with Wright State at 1:00 p.m.
