Women's Tennis Blanks `Zags March 18, 2002
Boise, Idaho - After a healthy defeat on Saturday to Boise State, the University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis team leaped back on its horse on St. Patrick's Day to shutout Gonzaga, 7-0 in the Boise State Invitational. The Flames didn't need the help of the Irish on Sunday, but did utilize the aid of other nations. UIC wasted little time as the Flames picked up each doubles match in decisive manner. The American duo of Nicole Derouin and Kim Harris won at No.1 doubles 8-5, while Germany's Britta Dohman teamed with Zvjezdana Malesevic from Bosnia and Herzegovina to win in the No.2 slot (8-2). U.S. native Alyson Stalzer paired with Canadian Karen Liwanpo to win at No.3 doubles (8-1). In singles play, Ayca Gumuscu of Turkey beat Jamie Buterbaugh 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the No.1 slot.
Derouin, Dohmann, Liwanpo and the Malesevic sisters also took home singles victories against Gonzaga.
