    GRIFFITH, Ind. - Juniors Natalia Kuvakina and Jana Knoppe defeated their respective singles opponents, as the UIC women's tennis team (7-3) suffered a 5-2 loss to Bowling Green at Match Point Tennis Sunday.  Kuvakina also won at doubles after combining with Ann-Sophie Hahn to improve to 8-1 this season.

    In doubles, Kuvakina and Hahn had the first victory, with an 8-2 win over Mary Hill and Jade Johnson at No. 3 for their eighth of the season, but the Falcons came in to take the next two matches for the first point.

    Haley Craig and Mariana Palacios were unable to outlast Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland at No. 1, falling 9-7, while Knoppe and Kathryn Sharples dropped their match at No. 2 to Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb, 8-4.

    Singles brought two wins for the Flames from Kuvakina and Knoppe.  Kuvakina was placed at No. 3 and was able to come back from falling in the first set to take the match 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5) from Eccleston.  Knoppe made quick work in her match with Grubb at No. 6, as she tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win.

    Craig fell to Reuland, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1, as Palacios' streak of eight wins was snapped by Chiricosta at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat.

    In the final matches, Sharples went down, 6-2, 7-5, to Katie Brozovich at No. 4 and Keti Mebuke lost a 6-1, 7-5 battle with Hill at No. 5.

    The Flames look to turn it around as they head to Dayton, Ohio, to compete against Wright State in the first Horizon League match of the season at 10 a.m. (CT) Saturday, before going head-to-head with former conference-foe Butler at 11 a.m. Sunday.
