Women's Tennis Edges Northern Iowa, 4-3
March 10, 2007
Rockford, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match in a closely-contested 4-3 battle against Northern Iowa on Saturday.
The Flames improved to 4-5 after winning for the third consecutive day while handing the Panthers their first loss of the season (7-1).
Nadasska and von Ubisch fought tooth-and-nail with Sampada Kanade and Carolina Hannes before clinching the match at 8-5, while Reisch and Gill-Morlis were in control throughout.
Close contests in the doubles portion served as a sign of things to come in singles action, where three matches went to third sets and two others required extra games in both sets.
Nadasska rebounded from a tight 7-6 loss in the first set of her No. 2 singles match against Pukse to take the next two frames in shutout fashion, 6-0, 6-0.
In the third spot Gill-Morlis and Taynara Moraes engaged in two very close sets, but Gill-Morlis held off the UNI player's offerings to pick up a prolonged straight-set win.
At No. 6 singles von Ubisch held off a comeback attempt by Meredith Esbeck. The first set went to von Ubisch by a 6-3 score, while the second frame went to the favor of Esbeck through a 6-1 count. In the tiebreaker set von Ubisch held on for a 7-5 set victory to clinch the match.
UIC will head to a two-match Texas road swing beginning on March 16th against North Texas in Denton.
