Women's Tennis Downs Detroit in Horizon League Opener, 5-2

Detroit, Mich.- A sweep of the doubles slate and wins in the final four singles spots propelled the UIC women's tennis team to a 5-2 road win over Detroit in the Flames' Horizon League opener on Sunday morning. UIC (2-4, 1-0 Horizon) dominated doubles play to take an early 1-0 lead. The Flames then took four two-set wins at the bottom of the order to take out the Titans (5-5). Corey Steven led the charge with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Amy Inman at No. 3 singles. Molly Smith followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ashley Cummins at the fourth slot. Sophomore Grace Gill-Morlis took a 6-0, 6-0 No. 5 win over Kelly Davis. Junior Christina Oum then wrapped up the dual match scoring with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Stephanie Hill. UIC returns to action later today against Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Ohio. UIC 5, Detroit 2
