Women's Tennis Defeats Illinois State, 4-3|

Evergreen Park, Ill- Another weekend of stellar doubles play and a hard-fought singles showing keyed a victory for the UIC women's tennis team over Illinois State, 4-3, at the Evergreen Racquet and Fitness Center on Saturday.
UIC (3-4) went up early on the Redbirds by taking two doubles matches to clinch the paired point. The Flames then went on to split the singles side, with wins by Iris Jaklin at No. 1, Molly Smith at No. 4 and Grace Gill-Morlis at No. 6.
Jaklin survived a three-set test against Elizabeth Bingier at the top spot by rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Jaklin also snared a doubles win with Melanie Humphrey.
After Smith and Gill-Morlis clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 showing over Carolyne Parent and Emilie Sechaud, Smith went on to down Parent with a 6-3, 6-2 victory while Gill-Morlis earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ashley Maxwell.
Corey Steven showed a valiant effort in defeat, dropping a close 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 marathon to Laura Gravino.
UIC returns to action this Friday against Horizon League rival UW-Milwaukee at the Evergreen Racquet and Fitness Center at 11 a.m.
