Feb. 14, 2004
Ypsilanti, Mich.- The UIC women's tennis team dropped their third straight team decision on Saturday afternoon, losing a tough 6-1 bout with Eastern Michigan at the Chippewa Racket Club.
UIC (2-4) was once again paced by newcomer Beatriz Cabrera, who secured her fifth straight singles win with a dominating 6-1, 6-3 victory over Victoria Domina at No. 1 singles. Cabrera also teamed with Corey Steven for their second doubles win in two days, an 8-5 effort over Amalia Lincaru and Kendra Clark.
It wasn't as good the rest of the way, as the Flames dropped five singles matches and the doubles point with a 1-2 doubles record.
Steven tried for her second singles win of the weekend, but the sophomore standout was denied after a 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) rallyn by Ying Kansuthi at the No. 3 spot.
Saturday's match was the second straight road meet of the weekend for the Flames, who lost to Bowling Green, 4-3, last night. The Flames have yet to play at home due to a weather-induced cancellation of their first scheduled home meet of the season last Sunday against Northern Iowa.
UIC is back in action on Friday, February 20th, when the Flames square off against in-state rival Illinois State in Normal, Ill. beginning at 6 p.m.
