Bowling Green, Ohio- Despite some strong showings in the singles portion of their match against Bowling Green on Friday night, the University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis team's rally was stopped short in a 4-3 loss to the Falcons at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

The Flames (2-3) fell behind early with a narrow defeat in doubles play, dropping the point despite an admirable performance by Molly Smith and Melanie Humphrey in an 8-6 loss at the No. 3 doubles spot.

UIC was led by Beatriz Cabrera, who ran her winning streak at No. 1 singles to four matches with a 6-3, 6-2 win over BGSU's Susie Schoenberger.

Cabrera also helped notch UIC's only doubles win of the day, an 8-2 win with Corey Steven over Gaby Coello and Ashley Jakupcin.

Steven chipped in a singles win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Coello at the No. 4 slot.

Ayca Gumuscu landed the Flames' third singles win, going the distance with Cameron Benjamin before putting away a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 victory.

UIC is back in action today with a battle against Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., starting at 1 p.m.
