Women's Tennis Downs Marquette, 5-2

Milwaukee, Wis.- Four singles wins and a doubles point victory propelled the UIC women's tennis team to a huge road dual match win over Marquette, 5-2, at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Wednesday night. UIC (1-2) was paced by Callan Smith at the top spots against their BIG EAST host. Smith, a former Golden Eagle player, haunted her old mates by teaming with Corey Steven for a No. 1 doubles win over Francina Bonnelly and Lauren Little and then picking up a No. 1 singles win over Little. Molly Smith picked up a singles win at the No. 4 spot, easily winning over Robin Metzler in a 6-2, 6-3 affair. Junior Christina Oum teamed with Iris Jaklin, who made her spring debut on Wednesday, to help UIC clinsh the doubles point in a close match against Metzler and Dominika Dabrowski. Sophomore Grace Gill-Morlis picked up an easy 6-2, 6-0 victory over Andrea Bucacek at the fifth slot. Steven nearly pulled out a huge win over Bonnelly at the No. 3 spot, falling in a close three sets. UIC returns to action this Saturday for a road match against Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Ill., beginning at 4:00 p.m. UIC 5, Marquette 2
